Water, sanitation and hygiene

YORO brings water, sanitation and hygiene to the community and schools

Schools and Hygiene

YORO trains teachers and school health clubs on proper water, sanitation, and hygiene practices, as well as menstrual hygiene management. We have also plan to begin installing rainwater catchment systems in schools for water reuse.

Sanitation

YORO has a sanitation research facility in our Juba office called the Sanitation Hub. It is here that engineers invent and test new sanitation products and technologies that are designed to meet our communities’ sanitation needs. We also support sanitation businesses like masons and pit latrine emptiers, connecting them to new Sanitation Hub technologies and providing them with business support.

Water

YORO strives to provide access to clean water to the community. In partnership with the community, the government and other stakeholders, we work to ensure that water points are locally managed and maintained.

Football For WASH

In our Football 4 WASH program, we use the power of football to influence behavior in the field of water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH) among school going boys and girls. YORO has formed WASH clubs in schools such as Bangasi Academy Secondary School, Yambio, Western Equatoria State and teachers are appointed as Patrons of these clubs. These WASH clubs carryout bi-weekly football and hygiene activities to spread the WASH messages. Most primary schools are characterized by shortages in clean water, poor hygiene, poor garbage disposal and lack of toilets/ pit latrines. YORO therefore is harnessing the communities’ love for football to spread the WASH messages and we believe we can bring positive change to the primary schools.
